Sialadenitis and Sialadenosis Causes, Symptoms, And Treatment in Ayurveda
Abstract
An enlarged salivary gland is referred to as sialadenitis. Salivary gland stones, autoimmune conditions, and infections are the causes. An irritated salivary gland may stop producing saliva. Sialadenitis often resolves within a week. The two most frequent causes of enlargement in the submandibular gland are sialadenitis and sialadenosis. Bacterial infections, viral infections, Sjogren’s disease, papillary obstructive parotitis, granulomatous sialadenitis, Mikulicz disease, and other autoimmune illnesses are the causes of the inflammation. The submaxillary gland, parotid gland, and sublingual gland are three pairs of salivary glands (exocrine glands). They help in digestion, oral lubrication, swallowing, and tooth protection from numerous harmful germs. Now, we discuss sialadenitis and sialadenosis briefly.
Introduction of Sialadenitis and Sialadenosis
Sialadenosis is the enlargement of the salivary gland, whereas sialadenitis is the inflammation or aggravation of the salivary gland.
Sialadenosis, also known as Sailosis, typically affects the parotid gland but can also affect the submandibular gland and other minor glands. It is a neoplastic condition that causes chronic, painless inflammation of the salivary glands.
A salivary infection known as sialadenitis can develop as a result of sepsis or other factors, including bacteria or viruses. It typically develops in the submandibular and parotid glands. It may be sudden, ongoing, or recurring.

Ayurvedic Aspect of Sialadenitis and Sialadenosis
In Ayurveda, 65 mukha rogas, or disorders of the buccal cavity, are defined by Acharya Sushruta. All three of the doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—are present in the mouth, and each has a vital role to play. Bodhaka kapha, one of the subtypes of kapha dosha, is in charge of lubricating the mucous membrane of the mouth cavity. Teeth pores contain vata dosha, while blood vessels contain pitta dosha, which protects and nourishes the tissues of the gums. Because of poor lifestyle and dietary choices, all three doshas get vitiated, which results in dosha imbalances that frequently result in swelling and inflammation of the salivary glands and oral cavity.
