They combined form the pelvic girdle. The pelvic girdle absorbs the shock for the spine. The sacroiliac joint relatively allows few degrees of motion and experiences shearing forces of torsion and rotation. When it becomes painful due to abnormal activity it is termed Sacroiliac joint Dysfunction. This dysfunction is more common in people with a sedentary lifestyle. Men and women are equally affected by the disorder and mainly of adult age. The prevalence of joint dysfunction is 16% to 30% in people with lower backaches. We need to know that it is different from sacroiliitis. Through this article, you will get to know the causes of Sacroiliac joint dysfunction along with its ayurvedic treatment.

Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction

Introduction

Sacroiliac joint Dysfunction is a condition in which there is pain in the Sacroiliac joint due to abnormal motion or misalignment of the joint. Many factors can lead to the malpositioning of the Sacroiliac joint. Typically Sacroiliac joints have few degrees of motion and motion beyond its normal limits can lead to pain and malpositioning of the joint. This is a synovial joint filled with synovial fluid. Malpositioning can be without any symptoms and pain can occur later in life when it turns into full dysfunction of the joint. Pain radiates up to the area of 3 cm to 10 cm from the joint. That includes buttocks, thighs, groins, and lower legs.

Ayurvedic Aspect

According to the ancient Ayurveda texts, joint disorders occur primarily due to the aggravation of Vata dosha along with anubandh of Kapha dosha. Vata dosha aggravates due to continuous malpractice of Vata vardhak diet and lifestyle. Due to the accumulation of Aam in the joints, the condition worsens. The Aam is formed in the body due to mandagni and overeating of unhealthy food. That ultimately releases toxins in the body and leads to organ and joint dysfunction. Toxin accumulation in the sacroiliac joint will lead to malfunctioning of the joint along with pain and stiffness. This will lead to the occurrence of sacroiliac joint dysfunction. In its treatment, the first step is to balance the dosha while eliminating toxins from the body (excretion of aam from the body).
