What are Polyps?
The term “polyp” has been derived from the Greek word polypous which refers to morbid lump. Polyp can transform to the lumen of a hollow vessel which can be located anywhere in the gastrointestinal, respiratory tract and genitourinary tract. Polyps can be tubular (80%) and about 5-15% tubulovillous, serrated, juvenile or hyperplastic; which have very low malignant potential. These have resulted from lipomas, carcinoids, mucous or lymphoid. (1) (2)
