Jalodarari Ras: Herbal Formulation For Ascities & Liver Diseases
Abstract
Jalodarari ras is a herbo-mineral formulation mentioned in Ayurvedic texts used in the management of ascites, liver diseases etc. As the name suggests, this medication helps in jalodar that is water filled in the udara or abdomen also called Ascites. Ascites is a pathological condition in which excessive water starts to accumulate in the abdominal cavity. This is a medicine prepared from the rasa aushadhis that is very effective in every disease. They work so fast and give no side effects. Ancient Acharyas have also mentioned that where herbal medicines are not working or providing successful results, we can use ras aushadhis to prevent or overcome the disease. Jalodrari rasa is prepared by the classical method by Planet Ayurveda to give proper results without any side effects, with 100% natural products and totally free from fillers, dyes, substitutes, adulterants, and chemical preservatives. Introduction
Acharya Charak has mentioned this in Ashtaudareeyam adhyaya in sutrasthana and in udara chikitsa adhyaya in chikitsa sthana. Jalodrari ras is described by Acharya Dhundhuk Nath in Rasendra Chintamani to manage the ascites or jalodara roga. It is prepared by different combinations of herbs and minerals: Pippali, Maricha, Rajani, Jaiphala, Snuhi ksheer, Tamra bhasma. These all herbs are very effective in managing or clarifying the udaka vaha srotas to treat various diseases.
Ascites is a condition that is caused by vitiation of udaka vaha strotas also called as dakodara. In our Ayurvedic texts, virechana karma or purgation therapy is said to be the very first or very effective treatment of this disease. Jalodrari ras is very effective to use as a purgative agent and also gives wonderful results to the patient who is suffering from ascites or any other condition where the fluid starts accumulating in the abdominal cavity.
This formulation helps in improving the digestion health, induces the purgation, useful in different Vataj vikaras, like neuralgia, paralysis, constipation, etc vataj vikaras, Udar rogas, ascites, meha, unmada, kushtha, ashmari, vrana, adhman, dushta vrana etc. these all benefits are mentioned in classical ayurvedic texts in the context of jalodrari ras.
Ingredients
- Pippali (Piper longum) – enriched with Katu (pungent) rasa , madhura (sweet) after digestion and is of anushnasheeta (wet variety is sheetla) potency. This herb is very helpful in maintaining all the doshas, it helps by enhancing the liver functions, and kidney functions leads to increase the water output capacity which in turn results in lowering down the ascites, and detoxifies the body.
- Maricha (Piper Nigrum) – is of Katu (pungent) in rasa or also gives the same rasa after digestion and is of ushna (hot) potency. This herb also helps to increase the water output from the body and reduces the ascitic fluid. It has kapha ghana, kaphanihsaraka (excretes the accumulated fluid) properties. This is teekshna in nature that induces the excretion of urine and helps to excrete out the excess water from the body. It has carminative action, is also used in arthritic conditions to relieve the pain or is also beneficial in indigestion and nausea.
- Rajini (Curcuma longa) – is of tikta (bitter), katu (pungent) in rasa, with katu vipaka and ushna potency. This herb is considered under the mutrasangrahniya and mutravirajniya mahakashaya by Acharya Charaka. So it means, this herb also helps to excrete out the excessive water from the body.
- Jaiphala (Croton tiglium) – This herb is enriched with katu (pungent) rasa, is guru(heavy), ruksha (dry), theekshana (sharp) and its after digestion rasa is katu (pungent). It is ushna or hot in potency, helps to alleviate the inflammatory changes and reduces the water accumulation in the abdominal cavity.
- Snuhi ksheer (Euphorbia neriifolia) – Its rasa is katu (pungent), laghu or teekshna in gunn, katu in vipaka and hot in veerya (potency), this herb is kapha vata shamak in nature, its milky latex is used here in jalodrari ras. It helps in cleansing the abdomen even in case of poisoning or severe constipation, its leaves paste is applied over the skin to treat various skin related issues or may also be used in prolonged masses, like piles, fistula.
- Tamra bhasma (Copper bhasma) – it is rich in tikta, kashaya, katu, madhur in rasa, hot in potency and madhur after digestion. This herb is sarak (have anuloma, or purgative nature), ropana (enhances the healing process), good for eyes, abdominal disorders, worm infestations, liver and spleen related disorders, and intestinal disorders etc.
Method of preparation
Take all the herbs and minerals, and blend them in a mixer grinder to make fine powder of each. Then take snuhi ksheer latex in sufficient quantity to mix them all together. Make small granules or tablets as needed and keep them for drying. Store it in an air-tight container for further use.
Dosage of Jalodarari Rasa
Jalodarari Rasa tablet is 125-500 mg tablet with water or as directed by your Ayurvedic physician. It can be for a month according to the condition. And if the patient is already taking allopathic medication and wants to go with Ayurveda also then he must put a gap between both the medicines for about 1 hour to avoid any type of adverse symptoms.
