How to Treat Cystitis with Ayurveda?
Abstract
Inflammation of the bladder is known as Cystitis is the medical term. The reason for this inflammation is an infection by bacteria and it’s known as urinary tract infection(UTI). Infection in the bladder can be annoying and painful and can lead to a serious health problem if it further spreads to the kidneys.
Another reason for this condition is naturally occurring bacteria in the body that become imbalanced. These bacteria lead to an infection and it leads to inflammation. Sometimes the cause of Cystitis are medicines and some hygiene product that can also cause inflammation.
Types of cystitis:
1. Acute Cystitis
This is a condition of cystitis which occurs suddenly in the body
2. Interstitial cystitis (IC)
This is a condition of cystitis which affects multiple layers of bladder tissue.
Both Acute and Interstitial cystitis have many causes associated with them and these causes determine the type of cystitis. Some of them are mentioned here:
Bacterial cystitis
The bacteria from outside the body enters the urinary tract through the urethra and multiply in the urethra. Escherichia Coli (E.coli) is the bacteria that is the culprit behind this problem.
In some cases, Sexual intercourse may be the result of bacterial bladder infection in women. But this condition doesn’t need to occur in women due to sexual intercourse only, even some sexually inactive females are also prone to this condition of Bacterial cystitis, reason behind this is a female genital area often harbors bacteria that can cause cystitis.
Noninfectious cystitis (Cystitis without bacteria)
Mostly the bacteria is the culprit behind Cystitis but other factors also cause the bladder to become inflamed:
1. Foreign-body cystitis
Catheter’s long-time use can predispose the patient to bacterial infections and damage the tissue, which can cause inflammation.
2. Chemical cystitis
Chemicals contained in certain products like feminine hygiene sprays, bubble bath, spermicidal jellies can be the reason behind the problem of Cystitis.
3. Interstitial cystitis
Known as painful bladder syndrome the cause of this chronic bladder inflammation is unknown. Women are mostly diagnosed with this condition. This problem of interstitial cystitis is very difficult to diagnose and treat.
4. Radiation cystitis
Treatment of radiation in the pelvic area can cause inflammation in the bladder tissue.
5. Drugs
Some of the medications mostly the drugs of chemotherapy, ifosfamide, cyclophosphamide can cause inflammation of the bladder.
Other types of cystitis
Other disorders can also contribute to the condition of cystitides like stones in the kidney, diabetes, enlarged prostate, and spinal cord injuries.
Complications of the Cystitis
In most cases, bladder infections rarely lead to complications but in some cases, if the problem left untreated it can become more serious, below are some of the complications of cystitis.
1. Blood in the urine
Cystitis can cause blood cells in your urine that can be seen with a microscope.
2. Stones in Kidney
If left untreated it can lead to infection in the kidneys known as Pyelonephritis. These Kidney infections can lead to permanent damage to your kidneys.
