How to Get Rid of Nasal Polyps Through Ayurveda
Abstract
Nasal polyps are non-cancerous growth in the nose that can make it difficult to breathe and also leads to trouble sleeping. It can cause other bothersome symptoms if not treated properly. In this article, we will discuss various causes, symptoms, diagnostic methods, and treatment methods of nasal polyps according to Ayurveda.
Introduction
Nasal polyps are defined as prolapsed pedunculated parts of the edematous nasal mucosa. They are painless benign growth in the nose or sinuses. They hang down in the nose like a bunch of grapes. Nasal polyps can occur due to untreated rhinitis, sinusitis, and other allergic conditions of the respiratory system. They can occur unilaterally (on one side of the nasal cavity), or bilaterally (in both nasal activities). Some nasal polyps can reoccur again and again while some are recovered in one-time recovery. That depends on the type of nasal polyp according to which they are characterized into two types-
- Ethmoidal polyp– it can occur at any age.
- Antrochoanal polyp– it arises from the mucosa of the maxillary antrum and is mostly seen in children and young adults.
Polyps basically develop due to the change in the mucous lining of the nose and sinus that make it inflamed over and over again. These swellings have fluid in them that turn into polyps.
Ayurvedic aspect

Nasal polyps are correlated to “Nasa Arsh” in Ayurveda. Nasa Arsh tends to occur due to an imbalance in the doshas of the body. The aggravation of a particular dosha forms a particular type of arsh depending upon its properties. Four types of arsh are seen in Ayurveda-
- Vataj Arsh

All types of arsh are treatable with ayurvedic herbs and other treatment modalities which are explained further in the article.

- Agni karam– If the polyps are hard and uneven in structure they are removed with agni karam, which can only be practiced by an Ayurveda expert.

Conclusion
Small nasal polyps may not cause any problems and thus will not show any symptoms but that does not mean they cannot cause any problems in the future. Better to treat small polyps before they increase in size and cause many problems. They can easily be managed just with herbal medications in no time. Even the treatment is also effective for chronic nasal polyps, but the main focus is to avoid their reoccurrence by managing diet and lifestyle and continuing side-effect-free herbal drugs for a defined period of time.
