How to Deal with Sports Injuries Through Ayurveda?

Whether you are a highly trained athlete there is always a chance you may get injured. Unfortunately, when injuries happen, it can be hard to know that how it can be treated. Sprains occur due to an injury to ligaments, “ligaments are the tough bands connecting bones in a joint”. The muscle strains are also called “pulled muscles” and it is because of the overstretching or overusing a muscle which causes tears in the muscle fibers or tendons.Sports Injuries Through Ayurveda

Usually preventing sports injuries are beyond control but many times these sports injuries are preventable. Always start your workout with a gentle warm up to prevent common sports injuries. Because warm-up increases the blood flow to the muscles and also decreases the chances of injuries.

Here are Some of the Most Common Sports Injuries:

  1. Ankle Sprain
  2. Hamstring strain
  3. Groin pull
  4. Shin splints
  5. Knee injury: ACL tear
  6. Knee injury: Causes due to the repetitive movement of the knee cap against the thigh bone.

Usually, these common sports injuries are mild to moderate and if they are mild then a person can treat them at home. But some  sports injuries may take time to heal and it needs proper treatment.

What are the Types, Symptoms and Causes of Sports Injuries?

1.Ankle sprain:In this strain, symptoms include stiffness, pain, and swelling.

2.Bruises:In bruises, a blow can cause small bleeding.

3.Concussion:In concussion, there is a mild reversible brain injury from a blow to the head, which is associated with loss of consciousness. Symptoms may include dizziness, headache, and short term memory loss.

4.Groin strain:Symptoms may include swelling, pain, and inflammation

5.Nose injuries: broken nose or  bleeding from nose is caused by a direct blow

6.Dehydration:Losing too much fluid from the body can lead to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

7.Hamstring strain:In this injury, symptoms are swelling, pain and bruising.

8.Cuts and abrasions:These are usually caused by falls. The hands and knees are particularly broken.

9.Knee joint injuries:In this injury, symptoms include stiffness, pain, and swelling. Ligaments, tendons or cartilages are affected.

Some Important Tips:

1.Ice:

Apply ice on the affected area for 15 to 20 minutes after every 2 hours for the first 48 to 72 hours.

2.Rest:

Take proper rest and keep the injured area supported and avoid using for 48 to 72 hours.

3.Compression:

Apply a firm and elastic bandage on the affected area, extending below and above the painful site.

4.No Heat:

Prevent the area from heating as heat will increase bleeding.

5.No Alcohol:

Avoid the consumption of alcohol, as alcohol increases swelling and bleeding

6.No Running:

Take proper rest and avoid doing exercises and running as it may delay the healing process.

7.No Massage:

Massage increases the bleeding, swelling and also delays the healing process.

Chronic injuries are caused by overuse of certain joints and muscle groups. Poor techniques and structural abnormalities in the body can also contribute to the development of chronic injuries. Investigation of  every sports injury is very important, because you may be hurt more severely than you think. For example, an ankle sprain may actually be a bone fracture.
