From those diseases, migraine is the one. It is a highly emerging disease in the population. Today we are going to discuss why migraine disorder is increasing and how one can treat it by following some natural methods.
INTRODUCTION
Migraine is a disorder with severe headache which generally happens with vomiting, nausea, and sensitivity of light. Mainly it occurs in one side of the head and sometimes in both sides also. Migraine can be worsening while doing some physical activities. It can last for several hours or days and rate of migraine occurrence is more frequent in females than males.
SYMPTOMS
In most patients, Migraine can develop into four stages which show different symptoms at each stage.
The stages of migraine development and their symptoms are:
1. Prodrome
One or two days before occurrence of migraine, symptoms may appear which warn you about upcoming migraine which are:
- Constipation or diarrhoea
- Food cravings
- Mood changes
- Stiffness in neck
- Frequent yawning
- Increased urination and thrust thirst
- Bloating
2. Aura
In certain populations, aura may occur during or before the migraine. Auras include symptoms of nervous system which are reversible in nature and can increase gradually. These symptoms can be easily observed and can last from 20 to 60 minutes in an individual which include:
- Vision loss
- Difficulty in clear speech
- Hearing rings in ears
- Visual phenomena like seeing flashes of light, bright spots or various shapes.
- Sensation of needles and pins in legs or arms.
- Uncontrollable in jerking or various other movements.
3. Attack
If remaining untreated, a migraine attack usually lasts from 4 to 72 hours. Symptoms of migraine attack vary from person to person and happen very rare. During migraine attack, individual feel symptoms like:
- Severe pain that throbs or pulses
- Severe pain in one side of head, but sometimes on both sides
- Nausea and vomiting
- Sensitivity to touch, smell, light and sound
4. Post-Drome
It happens after a migraine attack, an individual may feel confusion, drained or tired throughout the day. A sudden movement of the head can begin severe pain in the head.
CAUSES
Exact cause of migraine is not known. It is supposed that changes occurred in genes and the brain is responsible for migraine. Migraine can be transferred from parents to their child also. In the past, doctors thought that migraine occurs because of fluctuations in blood flow level in the brain. But now, this fact is considered as a trigger for the migraine not as the cause.
Studies and research might think of migraine as a result of over-activation of nerve cells which further begin to send out signals that triggers trigeminal nerve (the nerve responsible for giving sensation to face and head). This condition forces the body to release chemicals like calcitonin gene related peptide (CGRP) and serotonin which cause swelling at lining of blood vessels present in the brain and cause pain and inflammation.
