How Do You Cure Osteopenia Naturally?

Oh! I wish, if I could go back to my childhood days and relive the moments, run around and play games without even feeling pain or worrying about being hurt…said my grandmother watching children play in the park. Old age does bring a lot of changes in our lives, though it is called going back to childhood but in a form of weakness in the body and less learning ability. With age, our body, especially bones which are the framework of our body, become weak and start losing density and causing a condition called osteopenia.

Osteopenia

WHAT IS OSTEOPENIA?

Bones are specialized rigid connective tissue that forms the skeleton. It undergoes a lot of changes one such process is bone remodeling, it is a dynamic lifelong process in which old bone is resorbed and new bone is formed. Osteopenia is a condition where bone resorption occurs but formation doesn’t take place.

Osteopenia is the condition where bone density decreases and as per Ayurveda, it is termed as the kshaya. Asthi dhatu has a reciprocal relationship with Vata dosha and hence the decrease and increase of asthi depend on it. When vitiated Vata increases, asthi dhatu decreases as a result the bone density decreases. Majja dhatu which is the next dhatu formed after and present in asthi dhatu, also results in problems in asthi.

LET’S KNOW IT’S CAUSATIVE VILLAINS

Bone density decreases with age but there are a lot of other factors too which influence the reduction of the matrix of the bones. After the age of 50, the risk of osteopenia is high, females have more chances of being affected by this, lifestyle practices like consumption of alcohol, smoking, not having food enriched with required proteins and minerals, not doing exercise that is reduced physical workouts. Other factors are hereditary, removal of ovaries before menopause, diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, hyperthyroidism, Cushing’s syndrome, hyperparathyroidism, anorexia, etc.

According to Ayurveda, causes of asthi kshaya is increased vitiated Vata and this is increased by excessive exercise, intake of dry food, irregular dietary habits, fasting, grief, excess of fear, hunger, etc, as per the samanya vishesha Siddhartha like increases like and opposite guna decreases the corresponding dosha.

NATURAL REMEDIES TO OVERCOME OSTEOPENIA

Overexertion of the body can be a cause of osteopenia but no physical activity can also be a cause. Exercise is an important way to strengthen the bones. It can be done to strengthen bones or to strengthen the muscles. Having supplements and food which have proteins in them, as the bone has around 50% of protein present in them, having supplements that contain calcium, vitamin D3, vitamin K2, and minerals.
