How Chaple’s Syndrome can be Managed Naturally?
Abstract
Chapel syndrome is a rare disorder. It is an autoimmune disease in which the body starts attacking its own cells leading to red blood cells destruction. As it is a rare genetic disorder, it can be managed by Herbal formulations.
Introduction
Chapel syndrome is known as CD55 deficiency also called DAF deficiency. It is a rare and potential fatal autoimmune disease. Complement decay or decay accelerating factor(DAF) is a membrane protein. In humans it is encoded by the CD55 gene. DAF is present on the surface of all blood cells, endothelial cells and various other tissue cells. Its main role is to prevent the cells from autologous complement attack by preventing the formation of C3 And C5 convertases. DAF deficiency is linked to various types of diseases such as paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria and other autoimmune diseases. Chapel syndrome is a form of PIL(Primary intestinal lymphangiectasia) or Waldmann’s disease. In Chaple syndrome there are a range of symptoms including pain in abdomen, vomiting and bloody diarrhea.
Causes
Chapel syndrome is a rare genetic disorder which is caused by loss of complementary protein. There is loss of DAF(decay accelerating factor) or CD55. DAF(Decay accelerating factor) plays an important role in maintaining the immune system. It regulates the immune system through complement dependent and independent regulation of innate and adaptive immunity. The major function of DAF is to protect host cells from complement mediated attack. It inhibits the process of C3 and C5 by blocking the formation of C3 and C5 converters and initiating their decay. In the absence of CD55 , the complement system starts attacking red blood cells and causes their destruction. It is an autosomal recessive inherited disorder that means two copies of an abnormal gene must be present in order for the disease to get manifested.
Symptoms of Chaple Syndrome
Chapel syndrome is characterized by hyperactivity of a complementary system. It is characterized by paroxysmal autoimmune haemolysis (Destruction of red blood cells by complement system) and protein losing enteropathy( It is a condition of gastrointestinal tract which is characterized by loss of proteins from the body due to drainage of gut).
Chaple syndrome’s symptoms include:
- Red color of urine
- Abdominal pain
- Difficulty in swallowing
- Bloody diarrhea
- Fever
- Swelling in legs
- Frequent lung infections
- Deep vein thrombosis in severe conditions
- Erectile dysfunction in men
Diagnosis
The diagnosis of Chaple syndrome is done on the basis of Flow cytometry. Flow cytometry is an immunophenotyping technique which is used to analyze the expressions of cell surface.
Ayurvedic Aspect of Chaple Syndrome
As per Ayurveda Genetic disorders are considered under beej dosha. According to Ayurveda there are three genetic units in the form of beej(Germinal cells), Beejbhag(Chromosomes) and beejbhagavyava( Gene). According to Acharya Charak teratogenic depends upon the condition of beej. If beej is defective, the body developing from it will be considered abnormal. The goal of Ayurveda is to prevent such diseases. Ayurveda has explained six procreative factors which play an important role in development of genetic factors.
