HOME REMEDIES TO RELIEVE WEAK EYESIGHT

ABSTRACT

With the introduction of smartphones and all the new devices along with the idiot box in our lives, we have been indulged in staring at screens more and more. We are usually glued for hours and hours continuously to either our phones or computer screen be it from amusement or work without being careful about our eyes. Have you ever asked yourself if you are doing all these things, are you taking a good diet or following eyes relaxation exercises for relieving a bit of stress that is put on your eyes during the whole day? Weak vision has turned out to be very common throughout the world nowadays. Poor eyesight is usually of two types, i.e. nearsightedness or farsightedness. No one likes wearing glasses throughout the day due to poor eyesight. Hence, this article is dedicated completely to some very important and time tested home remedies that can help in recovering the weak eyesight to a certain extent.

INTRODUCTION

Deterioration of eyesight can occur very easily if no proper care is taken of eyes regularly. There are certain home remedies which can help you in enhancing the vision naturally by reducing the strain on eyes, adding certain things in your diet and relaxation exercises. 

Let’s Get Started and Learn About 15 of Them

1. Almonds

Almonds are known to possess antioxidants, omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin E in them naturally which helps in improving the eyesight. Almonds are also beneficial for improving concentration and memory. For this you can just take 4-5 overnight soaked almonds, early in the morning daily. You can also make it into a paste and have milk for breakfast. 

2. Indian Gooseberry

Amla or Indian gooseberry is an ancient remedy which has been used extensively to improve weak eyesight. Amla is a storehouse of vitamin C and antioxidants which naturally improves vision. Health of capillaries in the eyes and functioning of retinal cells is promoted by vitamin C present in it. Take a few spoonfuls of amla juice with half a cup of water daily or you can also take juice with honey.

3. Fennel

Saunf or fennel was termed as “the sight herb” by ancient Romans which is self-explanatory of it being used for the improvement of weak eyesight. Various eye ailments like cataract can be slowed down by the use of fennels owing to the antioxidants and nutrients present in it. Fennel seeds of bigger size should be grinded along with the some almonds and sugar into the powder form and taken daily one teaspoon of this powder with a glass of milk before bedtime. 

4. Ginkgo Biloba

It is also known as maidenhair tree which is one more amazing herb that can help in improving eyesight when used as a home remedy for a certain time. Ginkgo biloba also prevents severe eye diseases like macular degeneration, retinopathy and glaucoma. This plant should not be taken in crude form but use standardized leaf extract that too in very small quantities like 0.5 ml for an adult. Diabetic and children should not use this herb.

5. Desi Ghee

Desi ghee consists of various minerals and vitamins that can help in improvement of eyesight. It also helps in treating inflammations and many other health problems. For vision, apply some ghee on temples and for a few minutes massage with tips of the fingers. 

6. Wild Asparagus

This is one of the best and widely used herbs in Ayurveda for improving vision. Wild asparagus helps in promoting longer and healthier life of the eyes. You can mix some honey with one teaspoon of wild asparagus and take it daily along with the cup of cow milk. Daily consumption of this remedy has shown amazing effects on the eyesight.

7. Figs and Raisins

You can improve your weak eyesight by regular consumption of this mixture. Figs and raisins work wonders for weak eyes and promote health of the eyes. Take 12 overnight soaked raisins and 2-3 figs (also soaked). Take them early in the morning on an empty stomach. Repeat this daily for months, you will see the difference in some weeks.

8. Triphala

Triphala is actually an Ayurvedic combination of three herbs, i.e. Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), bibhitaki (Terminalia bellerica) and amla (Emlbica officinalis). It is a powerful remedy to bring back your healthy vision and resolve the eye problems. You can take triphala powder and add it to one glass of water. Leave for overnight and in the morning strain the solution. Wash your eyes with this solution.

9. Carrots

Carrots are very well known and widely used as well to get healthy eyesight owing to the fact that they possess vitamin A, vitamin C and iron in abundance. All of these are very much needed for eyes. You can eat it raw in the form of salad or have juice of it daily. 

10. Bilberry

Bilberry is a plant which is used in Ayurveda to treat various eye ailments. Its leaves, ripe fruit or dried form of fruit are used for the remedy. This herb is known to treat weak eyesight, cataract, glaucoma and disorders of the retina to a certain extent. You can take fresh bilberry fruits (a few) every night before going to sleep, it will help in improving the eyesight.

11. Balanced Diet

It is very important for you to have a balanced diet for maintaining your overall health and eye’s health is not an exception. Eating a good, nutritious diet full of essential vitamins and minerals help in fulfilling the deficiencies which lead to weak vision or poor eyesight. Take more vegetables and fruits like spinach, broccoli, papaya, red peppers, oranges, carrots, sweet potato, almonds, and sunflower seeds. Non vegetarian food include fish and lean meat in your diet for omega 3 fatty acids and other required nutrients. 

12. Screen Timings

Set a proper screen timing for yourself so that your eyes do not get over exerted during your daily schedules. If you have to sit in front of a computer or laptops for hours due to work, take breaks in between. Like follow a pattern of 20 which means after every 20 minutes of staring at the screen, look away for 20 feet (approximately) for around 20 seconds. Try this after every 20 minutes. This is a form of eye exercise that will help to relieve the strain

13. Quit Smoking

Smoking is bad for your overall health. Smoking over a period of time leads to increasing risk for certain eye diseases like cataracts, age related macular degeneration and uveitis. Also the smoke emitted from cigarettes irritates the eyes, worsening eye ailment like dry eye.

14. Sunglasses

These are not only for fashion statement but also helps in protecting your gentle eyes from various harmful rays and radiations that are present in the atmosphere like UV light which leads to cataract and other eye damaging condition. 

15. Eye Exercise

There are certain exercises for eyes which help in stimulating the muscles supporting the eyeballs and improve the vision eventually. You can do simple exercise like rotating eyeballs up and down, left to right. Do this daily 2-3 times.
