Abstract

Introduction

Eruptive syringoma is a very rare type of syringoma. It is a benign adnexal tumor of the eccrine sweat ducts. It arises in the intra-epidermal portion of eccrine ducts of the sweat glands. These are typically found on eyelids, armpits, abdomen, neck, chest, scalp and groin region. These tumors are skin colored or yellowish, rounded bumps. This term is derived from Greek language syrinx which means tube. This is often associated with Down syndrome and multiple syringoma.

In Ayurveda, we can correlate this disease with svedavaha strota dushti (Vitiation of sweat gland ducts). The main seats of sveda are meda (Subcutaneous fat) and Romkoop (Sebaceous gland)¹. If there is any problem in these two then it will cause sweda vaha srotas diseases.

Etiology/Causes

Both sexes are affected with this disease. But women are more prone to this disease. There is no exact cause for this disease. Most probably following are the causes of this disease:

• Family history
• Overactive sweat glands
• Oily skin
• Marfan syndrome patients

In Ayurveda the Causes of Sweda Vaha Srotas Dushti are²:

Do excessive exercise, too much exposure to the sunlight, exposure to cold and hot alternatively, anger, grief and fear. These are the causes of sweda vaha srotas dushti.

Clinical Features/Sign and Symptoms

The patient who is suffering from this disease presenting following symptoms:

• Appearance of small yellow eruptions over the skin
• Redness over the affected area
• Sometimes these eruptions may cause pain and irritation
• Burning sensation
• Papules size varies from 1 to 3 mm in diameter

Symptoms of Sweda Vaha Srotas Dushti are³:

Person shows these symptoms such as excessive sweating or no sweating, stickiness over the skin, skin tightening, burning sensation on the affected site. These are the symptoms of this disease.

Diagnosis

This disease can be diagnosed clinically based on presentation and distribution. But a definitive diagnosis is based on Skin biopsy. In this test skin tissue is examined under a microscope. In histological reports, syringoma has a comma shaped tail of dilated eccrine ducts.

Treatment

The first and main goal of treatment is to improve the appearance of lesions. Generally this disease does not show any symptoms. For the treatment of this disease both medical and surgical treatment methods have been shown complete work. But these procedures have their own side effects such as skin discoloration, skin scarring and pain. Moreover, these procedures are time-consuming and require many treatment sessions.
