Abstract
Erythema dyschromicum perstans is an infrequent skin condition in which hyper-pigmentation of the skin takes place. It is also known as ashy dermatosis because of the ash-grey colour of macules and it could vary in shape and size. It occurs mostly in adults but may be seen in children of any age. Aetiology is unknown. The lesions are presented in areas in which the neck, limbs, face and trunk are included. It affects both genders but females are more affected than males and is usually seen before the age of 40. According to Acharya shushruta, vayu vitiated by anger and exertion then combined with pitta and produces a pain-free circle from the region of the mouth, which is called vyanga.
