Abstract

Boys are 2 to 3 times are likely to stammer as girls as they get older this gender difference increases. Approximately 75 percent of children recover from stammering. 25 percent who continue to stammer, stammering can persist as a lifelong communication disorder (1).

Development Stammering

The most common type of stammering many are familiar with it develops during childhood when a child learns to speak usually occur at the age of three-and-a-half years of age.

Acquired or late-onset Stammering

It is a very uncommon type and happens in older children and adults as a result of a head injury, or neurological condition. May caused by some drugs or physiological or emotional trauma

Psychogenic

This type originates in the part of the brain which governs thinking and reasoning.

Causes of Stammering

Genetic

Stammering runs in the families. Genes that a child inherited from their parents might cause them to stammer. It is uncommon that only one gene is responsible for stammering.
