Best Ancient Herbs and Remedies for Restoring Healthy Prostate
ABSTRACT
The prostate is a gland present in the male reproductive system. It is a walnut-sized gland for men. It is almost conical in shape and consists of a base, an apex and four surfaces (an anterior, a posterior and two inferolateral surfaces). The prostate has five lobes that include one anterior lobe, one posterior lobe, two lateral lobes and one median lobe. The prostate is covered by a connective tissue called Prostatic fascia. The prostate is present inferior to the urinary bladder, anterior to the rectum. It surrounds the proximal urethra in the lesser pelvis. The main purpose of the prostate is to produce fluid that nourishes sperm. This fluid is added to semen (Ejaculate) and helps in the transportation of sperm. Prostate muscles also help in the passage of semen during ejaculation. It is very important to restore the healthy functioning of the Prostate gland in order to maintain the efficient working of the male reproductive system. This article will focus on restoring the healthy working of the prostate through herbs.

AYURVEDIC OVERVIEW
According to Ayurveda, the Prostate is called “Asashteela”. The prostate is responsible for providing secretions to Shukra Dhatu. Secretions from the Prostate nourish the sperm and helps in the flow of Shukra Dhatu. Disorders related to the Prostate gland are mostly seen in old age due to vata dosha pradhanta (Vata predominance). Due to a poor diet and decreased digestive fire, there is the production of ama (toxins) in the stomach. This ama spreads to various parts of the body including the Prostate. Ama along with vitiated apan vayu (Type of Vata) causes Prostate abnormalities in men. As a result symptoms like Alapmutrata (Decreased urine output), Mutrakrichta (Dysuria), Mutrajathar (Urine retention), Udara shoola (Abdominal pain), Kati shoola (Pain in the lower back), Medra shoola (Pain in the penis), Vrishana shoola (Pain in Scrotum) etc are seen in Prostate Abnormalities.
