AYURVEDIC ASPECT ON SYSTEMIC GONOCOCCAL INFECTION

Gonorrhea can be correlated to “puyemeha” in Ayurveda. It is also known as “aupsargika meha”.

According to the Ayurvedic principles, puyemeha is an infective disease which spreads to the healthy person through sexual contact with an infected one. It occurs due to infection leading to hindrance of the natural balance of pitta levels which further disturb the natural balance of Rakta dhatu.

Its incubation period i.e. when the infection or bacteria has entered the body but has yet not produced any symptoms is considered to be 7 days.

It is considered that after the jeevanu (pathogen) enters the body it travels to the mutra marg resulting in shotha (swelling) which leads to vrana utpati (wound formation). This wound further presents puye srav (pus draining). This condition is known as puyemeha.

  • Sheeshan prakshalan(urethral wash) with herbal decoctions such as nimba patra kwath, phitkari jal etc helps in curing the condition.
  • There are various herbal remedies that are beneficial in puyemeha such as shweta parpati, puyemehari churna, sfateekadi churna etc.
  • Restrict sexual activities.
  • Ekantvas (Isolation) is suggested.
