Abstract

Bartholin gland cancer is the abnormal proliferation of cells in the gland. Bartholin glands are a pair of pea-sized alveolar glands. It is located in the vulvar vestibule, at either side of the external opening of the vagina. Bartholin glands are responsible for the production of mucus that helps in the lubrication of the vagina. It is a type of vulvar cancer and sometimes appears like a cyst in the Bartholin gland. Out of all vulvar cancers, it is extremely rare. Let’s discuss!

Introduction

Bartholin gland cancer is a rare form of tumour of the vulva arising in the Bartholin gland. It is more common in females of middle and old age. Symptoms occur late after the growth of the tumour. It is present deep inside the vulva. It is characterised by the presence of a painless mass inside the vaginal opening. Dyspareunia (Pain during sex), and mass in the vulva are some of the symptoms seen in Bartholin gland cancer. If not treated in time, the tumour can spread to other parts of the body like inguinal lymph nodes and ischiorectal fossa.
