Abstract

Introduction

Bartholin gland cancer is a rare form of tumour of the vulva arising in the Bartholin gland. It is more common in females of middle and old age. Symptoms occur late after the growth of the tumour. It is present deep inside the vulva. It is characterised by the presence of a painless mass inside the vaginal opening. Dyspareunia (Pain during sex), and mass in the vulva are some of the symptoms seen in Bartholin gland cancer. If not treated in time, the tumour can spread to other parts of the body like inguinal lymph nodes and ischiorectal fossa. According to Acharya Shushruta, aggravated doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) reach the yoni (Female genitalia) and get localised in the rakta (Blood) and mamsa (Muscle) of the yoni producing a muscular sprout, which is usually painless. It shows gradual growth. One of the common manifestations is pain during intercourse. If neglected and not treated properly it can spread to nearby tissues.
