Abstract

Types of Allodynia

Allodynia is divided into three types

  1. Dynamic allodynia is also called mechanical allodynia, in which pain is experienced by a person when any object is moved around the skin.
  2. Thermal allodynia: In this, pain is caused when changes occur in the temperature.
  3. Static allodynia is also called tactile allodynia, in which pain is experienced by a person with soft or gentle touch.

Causative Factors of Vata Vyadhi

According to Acharya Sushruta, causative factors of vata vyadhi are:  (सु. सू. २१/१९)

  • A weak person fighting with a strong person
  • Performing heavy exercises
  • Indulging in more sexual acts
  • Continuous study
  • Falling down from a certain height
  • Excessive strain on the body
  • Running or speed walking
  • Injury due to fighting
  • Swimming in water
  • Dry meat
  • Carrying heavy loads
  • Excessive traveling on elephants, horses, chariots, and by foot
  • Eating during indigestion
  • Not sleeping during the night
  • Increased intake of bitter, astringent, pungent, rough, light, cold, and dried vegetables

Pathogenesis of Vata Vyadhi

देहे स्रोतांसि रिक्तानि पूरयित्वा अनिलो वली।

करोति विविधान व्याधीन सर्व अङ्ग एक अङ्ग संश्रयान।। (च. चि. २८)

Vata dosha gets aggravated by the above-mentioned factors, which leads to occupied empty transport channels. On filling the empty spaces, the aggravated vata develops many diseases, which may affect the whole body or be limited to a particular area that is vatavyadhi.
