Abstract

Kidney disease in dogs is a serious problem, Kidneys of dogs function same as Kidneys of humans. Disease occurs in the kidneys, also produces some other dysfunctions like: if the kidneys don’t work properly then the waste product builds up in the blood. It impacts on the body balance. In Ayurveda the disease in dogs is due to the aggravation of Vata and Pitta dosha. Vata plays an important role in the movements occurs in the body, speech, expression and regulation of immune system and nervous system. And Pitta dosha works on the Metabolic and biological process of the body (ie. generates heat energy). Let’s discuss this disease in detail.

 

Introduction

As we all know that kidneys are the vital organ of  the body in every mammal present on this earth. So if any type of abnormality occurs in the kidneys, whole body balance gets affected. Nowadays, Kidney disease in dogs has become so common. Initially this disease is manageable, but when the disease progresses, it’s become quite difficult. This disease in Ayurveda occurs due to the aggravation of the most important dosha ie. Vata and Pitta dosha, due to aggravated Vata dosha pain occurs, aggravation of Pitta dosha produces excessive sweating and bad breath.The kidney disease in dogs is related to mutravikara updrav, Vata and Pitta are the main doshas which mainly involved in the mutravikara updrava. This disease mainly has two types ie:

Causes

In acute stage the causes are:

1. Bad food or smell in food
2. Due to urinary obstruction
3. Dehydration (severe)

Sign and Symptoms

1. Decreased appetite
2. Weight loss
3. Vomiting and diarrhoea
4. Occurence of blood in the urine, and change in volume and frequency of urine.
5. Drinking more or less water
6. Presence of oral ulcers
7. Bad breath

Diagnosis

1. Blood test (for detection of abnormalities)
2. Urine test (for detection of abnormalities)
3. Physical examination ( to  check the condition of the dog)
4. Complete blood count – This test is used to detect the anaemia or an elevation of white blood cells

Management

The treatment depends upon the condition of the dog. In the acute stage of the disease the basic treatment includes fluid therapy, and when disease progresses dialysis and kidney transplant may also be included. Nutrition is the main ingredient
