These three doshas are responsible for the various bodily activities. The kapha possesses various qualities in the body such as oleation, coolant, heaviness, smoothness, tenderness, stability, etc. Kapha dosha resides mainly in the upper region of the body such as the chest and head

The lungs, brain, heart and sense organs are included in the region of kapha dosha. The avalambak cough resides in the chest, tarpaka kapha in the head, bodhaka kapha in the tongue, kledaka kapha in the stomach and shleshak kapha in the joints. The kapha is responsible for various activities such as nourishing the brain and sense organs, perception of taste, lubrication and maintenance of the stability of the joints.
