Alternative Treatment For Intestinal Tuberculosis With Herbal Remedies
Abstract
Intestinal Tuberculosis occurs in 3 to 6 percent of all the Tb cases worldwide. This condition can transpire from any active pulmonary disease or appear as a primary infection without any involvement of pulmonary organs. Intestines are the most commonly affected site for tuberculosis after the lungs and more specifically terminal ileum and cecum is more commonly affected. Its possible causes may include directly ingestion of sputum, spread from the blood culture, swallowing of milk or its products produced by infected bovines in different developing countries. Its diagnosis can be difficult to make due to its non-specific presentation, this condition commonly overlaps with Crohn’s disease features. In allopathy medicine, its treatment is the same as pulmonary tuberculosis, which is anti-tuberculous therapy; in severe cases, they may suggest surgical interventions. In Ayurveda, this condition is managed by a more effective means of treatment that does not cause any type of side effects or any damage to the organs. In this article, we are going to discuss symptoms of Intestinal Tuberculosis, and its management according to Ayurveda.
Introduction
Intestinal tuberculosis is one of the forms of extrapulmonary tuberculosis that can be the result of primary or secondary infection. Tuberculosis of the intestine can affect multiple areas of the bowel simultaneously. The bacilli penetrate the mucosa, causing caseous necrosis and scarring. The primary form is due to the direct intake of Mycobacterium Bovis and the secondary infection is due to the spread of bacillus from a lung infection. This disease can be triggered due to Sputum, which can be ingested, through the hematogenous spread, and lymphatic drainage, and can cause Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In our intestines, the most commonly involved segments are the terminal ileum and ileocecal valve because of its narrow lumen and this part usually tends to absorb more nutritional substances from the food, moreover, this part allows it to absorb the organisms, it has low digestion activity.
