Pain is a signal in your nervous system that something went wrong. It may come and go, or sometime it may be constant. It is an unpleasant physical and emotional suffering. The physical pain can be described as sharp, stabbing, burning, or tearing and can be constant. The emotional pain include stress, anxiety, and depression. You may suffer from pain for a number of reasons and it is very important to you to know the exact reason for the pain. Sometime it may be due to some minor problems in your body but in some cases, there is the major problem behind it. You may feel the pain in one area of your body or all over the body. Pain gives us a signal that something is going wrong in your body and can be helpful in diagnosing a problem. Pain can be treated, and there are many ways to manage and cure it.
There are Two Types of Pain:
- Acute pain
- Chronic pain
1. Acute Pain
Acute pain is a broad term which ultimately describes a mild to sharp pain that comes on suddenly and lasts anywhere from a few seconds to up to a couple of months. It is a type of pain that typically lasts less than 3 to 6 months and related to tissues damage. Acute pain is for short duration if injured tissues heal but in some case, it may not. The main reasons for the acute pain in the human body are a disease, injury or inflammation. If it not cured on time than it will lead to chronic pain.
Symptoms of Acute Pain
- Fatigue
- Muscle spasms
- Coldness
- Flu-Like symptoms such as fever, sore throat, and chills
- Nervousness
- Insomnia
2. Chronic Pain
Chronic pain persists often more than 12 weeks or even more. Chronic pain is multifaceted because it involves the nerves and nervous systems, including the central nervous system made up of the brain and spinal cord. Chronic pain can be potent and unrelenting, and lead to various degrees of disability or incapability’s if it is not treated well.
Symptoms of Chronic Pain
- Discomfort, stiffness or tightness
- Pain that causes symptom such as burning, and aching
- Chronic fatigue
- Sleeplessness
- Frequent infection and illness
- Headache
There are many health benefits of the food if we look at food as medicine. There are several herbs which are very effective in pain and that’s why known as natural painkillers.
1. Ginger
Ginger has a very good anti-inflammatory effect which alleviates the pain from muscle soreness, stomach pain, chest pain, and menstrual pain. Gingerol is the main active compound of ginger which has very good medicinal properties. Which promotes the healing and provides relief from the pain. It is also very effective for migraine patients because it provides relief from severe migraine pain. It is good for respiratory tract infection, cough, bronchitis, and sore throats. You should make ginger tea and drink it for instant relief from pain.
2. Peppermint
It is one of the most important painkillers in our kitchen. Applying peppermint oil on forehead will help by reducing the tension headache. The leaves of peppermint helps to ease your digestion, soothes and calm your mind. It is very effective in providing relief from muscular pain, toothache, and head pain.
3. Turmeric
Curcumin is a main active compound in turmeric which helps to provide relief from chronic pain. It has very good antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-carcinogenic and anti-inflammatory properties. The anti-inflammatory property of turmeric helps to ease the muscular pain, joints pain and decrease the swelling. Add one tablespoon of turmeric powder in warm milk and drink it before you sleep. It provides relief from the pain.
4. Cloves
It is one of most effective painkiller during tooth pain, mouth infections. Clove has very good anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties. If you have severe toothache then grind 2-3 clove and mix this powder with a half a tablespoon of olive oil. Apply gently over the affected area. This will provide relief from pain and swelling in the mouth. Clove oil is also very effective to prove relief from pain in the affected area. Sprinkling ¼ teaspoon of ground cloves on meals daily may also heal the cavity.
5. Cherries
People struggling with arthritis, chronic headache, and gout, cherries shows some very effective results on them. It is a very good source of anthocyanins, which has a very powerful anti-inflammatory property which kicks off the enzyme which starts tissues inflammation.
6. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar heals heartburn. Many experts suggest to add one tablespoon of APC in one glass of water and drink it in the morning with empty stomach which provides relief from painful and burning bouts due to heartburns. Apple cider vinegar contains a high content of malic and tartaric acid which speeds up the breakdown of fats and proteins.
7. Yogurt
Yogurt is also one of effective painkiller because it provides relief from abdominal pain and menstrual cramps. Yogurt contains healthy probiotics which are very essential for the proper functioning of the digestive system.
8. Epsom Salt
Fill your bathtub with warm water and add two cups of Epsom salt to it. Soak your body in this bathtub for 20-25 minutes. This will provide relief and relaxation form muscles pain and also heals them. If you are regularly soaking the ingrown nails in warm Epsom salt water it can give relief in the pain. The main component magnesium in Epsom salt helps in muscle relaxation and healing.
9. Trachyspermum ammi (Ajwain)
It is very effective to provide relief from arthritis and joints pain. Ajwain is also helpful in the case of an upset stomach such as bloating, dyspepsia, diarrhea, and abdomen pain. It has a very good anti-inflammatory property which helps with rheumatism. Add some ajwain in one glass of warm water with little jaggery helps to cure pre-menstrual syndrome.
10. Fennel Seeds
It is very effective during menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea). Take one glass of warm water and add one tablespoon of fennel powder to it. Sip this drink 2-3 times in day to reduce the pain suffered by young girls during painful menstruation.
