7 Simple Home Remedies to Control Hair Fall

It is normal to lose 100 hairs on a daily basis as new ones grow and replaces them, but excessive hair loss should ring an alarm. It could be due to some illness like thyroid issues and PCOS, side effect or some medicine like birth control pills, hormonal imbalance, genetics, use of hair styling products and environment pollution. Hair fall is equally common in both men and women.

Hair loss is often attributed to Nutritional deficiencies, thus proper diet is one of the most effective approach to deal with hair loss. Deficiency of Vitamin D, iron, copper, zinc and proteins in diet often leads to hair fall.

Aging plays an important role in hair loss. The rate at which hair tends to grow, slow down with age. Hair strands become smaller with less pigment and becomes thinner and grey.

There are a large number of home remedies that can help control hair fall. Most effective among those are listed below.

1. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera gel works wonders when massaged on the scalp. It can be used as a stimulant to help stop hair loss, itching and flaking of the scalp. It is a good remedy to treat dandruff. Aloe Vera helps in restoring the pH level of the scalp due to its alkaline properties. It penetrates deep into the scalp and hair, thereby promoting hair growth.

One needs to simply cut the aloe Vera leaves and gently rub (in circular motions) the juicy portion of the leaf on the scalp to reduce dryness or irritation. It is good if you wash the hair before applying aloe Vera gel. After application the hair should be washed with cold water in about 20 minutes.

(You may also boil the plant before extracting the pulp content)

Aloe Vera gel should be applied twice a week to get maximum benefits.

2. Coconut Milk and Coconut Oil Massage

Coconut milk has proteins, essential oils, and potassium in it that promote hair growth and prevents hair loss. Coconut milk is also rich in Vitamin E that helps to moisturize the hair and keep them healthy looking.

To prepare coconut milk at home, one needs to grate a medium sized coconut (squeeze its milk) and simmer it for a few minutes. Then strain it and let it cool. Add a spoon of black pepper and fenugreek seeds (methi) to the solution. Apply this on the scalp using a hair dye brush and let it sit for 30 minutes. You may cover your head with a towel. Rinse it with cold water and wash it with the shampoo.

It is advised to do this once a week. Washing with coconut milk helps reduce breakage of hair.

Oiling improves blood circulation and nourishes the roots. Coconut oil is an excellent way to strengthen the hair right from the roots. It contains antioxidants. Slightly warm up the virgin coconut oil and massage it on the scalp in circular motion. It should be left overnight and then rinsed.

Both coconut oil and coconut milk have anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties that protect the hair from any kind of damage and help fight scalp infections.

3. Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek seeds contain nicotinic acid and proteins that boost hair shafts and growths.They make hair shiny, strong and increase in length. They help in rebuilding the hair follicles.

The seeds should be soaked in water for a night so that they get softened. A paste can be prepared with them by grinding them. This paste needs to be applied on the hair for one hour. Cover the hair with a shower cap to prevent drying. It should be washed with lukewarm water. This treatment can be done once or twice a week for best results.

One may add some yogurt/curd and one egg white to the fenugreek seed paste for better results.

Another way is to fry fenugreek seeds in coconut oil, let it cool, strain and apply the mixture in small amounts on the scalp.

4. Coriander Juice

Coriander is an herb well known to make hair soft and shiny and also helps in preventing hair loss along with promoting new hair growth.

Coriander juice can be prepared easily by grinding a cup of coriander leaves, put some water in them to form a paste. Squeeze the mixture to extract some juke, which can be applied to the scalp using a hair dye brush. The mix should be left for an hour before rinsing.

Coriander juice treatment can be done twice a week (before taking a bath).

5. Neem Leave

Neem leaves are known for their multipurpose use since ancient times. They provide an excellent shield in stopping hair fall, helps in treating dandruff, strengthens the hair follicles and treats other infections of the scalp.

To use neem leaves, one needs to wash them properly and boil them. Strain the leaves out. Use the water to wash your hair. The water should reach the roots of the hair and scalp.

This treatment can be done two times a week.

6. Amla (Indian Gooseberry)

Amla is rich in Vitamin C. Consuming Amla helps in strengthening the hair follicles. Amla is also known for its anti-inflammatory and exfoliating properties, thus it provides faster hair growth.

Dried amla may be added to coconut oil and heated till the oil turns black. This mixture once cooled, should be applied on the scalp.

One can mix some lime juice with amla powder to form a paste. This should be massaged into the scalp and left for one hour before rinsing.

7. Beetroot Juice

Beetroots are also rich in Vitamin C, B6, folate, manganese, calcium, phosphorous and potassium. All these nutrients are essential for hair growth. One may consume beetroot juice on a daily basis.

Just boil 7 beetroot leaves and grind them along with some henna leaves to form a paste. This paste should be applied on the scalp and left on for 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water. This may be repeated two times a week.

It is advised to choose the right kind of shampoo for your hair depending on your scalp. A good condition helps to keep hair smooth and helps to repair damaged hair. Avoid using too much blow dryer, curling rods, especially on wet hair
