Abstract
Poikiloderma-like cutaneous amyloidosis is a rare case of primary cutaneous amyloidosis. Amyloidosis is a rare condition in which there is an accumulation of proteins or an abnormal protein builds up in organs and interferes in the normal functioning of that organ. This amyloid is not normally found in the body, but it can be formed from the different types of proteins. Common organs may be affected are heart, kidneys, liver, spleen, nervous system and digestive tract. When it accumulates in the organ then it affects the shape and alters the function of the affected organ. Amyloidosis is a life-threatening organ life failure disease. In today’s article we are going to discuss Poikiloderma-like cutaneous amyloidosis and its Ayurvedic management.
Introduction
Poikiloderma-like cutaneous amyloidosis is a rare disease of the skin. This disease is a rare variant of primary cutaneous amyloidosis. It was first discovered in 1929. In poikiloderma, there is hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation and atrophy in the skin. This is most frequently seen on the chest or the neck and characterized by red coloured pigment on the skin. Amyloids are deposits in the skin without involvement of the internal organs.
Etiology/Causes
It can be caused by mutations in the OSMR or IL31RA gene. This disease is also associated with other diseases and conditions such as
- Infections like Lyme disease
- Inherited diseases
- Autoimmune disorders
- Excessive Ultraviolet exposure
Clinical Features/Signs And Symptoms
The Symptoms Of This Disease Are
- Change in skin colour
- Reddish or brownish spots over the skin
- Lichenoid papules
- Blister formation
Diagnosis
Poikiloderma-like cutaneous amyloidosis is diagnosed with physical examination and proper history. A skin biopsy is required to properly diagnose this disease.

1. Manjishtha Capsules
This is a single herbal formulation. This is the best natural blood purifier. These capsules are made from the standardized extracts of Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia). This herb clears the blood and is helpful in managing skin disorders. It pacifies pitta dosha. Manjishtha also reduces stress, anxiety and depression.
