Natural Remedies and Tips for Hypophosphatemia (Electrolyte Disorder)
Abstract
Electrolytes which are also known as minerals are present throughout the body fluid and blood helping the body to maintain the pH levels. Potassium which is one of the electrolytes helps in building and repairing the teeth and bones. It is also responsible for maintaining the good functioning of the nervous system as well as contraction of muscles. 85% of the bones contain phosphate in them and the rest of them are stored in tissues. The Kidneys are responsible for controlling the levels of phosphate while the extra phosphate is filtered from the body in the form of urine with the help of the Kidney.
The levels of phosphate are responsible for controlling the amount of calcium present in the blood. Both calcium and phosphate act oppositely, as the phosphate levels rise the levels of calcium fall and parathyroid hormone is responsible for maintaining it. It is very important to maintain the levels of phosphate in the body whenever the levels of phosphate fall it gives rise to Hypophosphatemia which we are going to discuss in this article and how Ayurvedic medicines are helpful.
What Is Hypophosphatemia?
It is a rare disorder that is mainly related to blood and here hypo means lows, phosphate which is one of the electrolytes and emia means blood meaning low levels of phosphate present in the blood”. There are two types of hypophosphatemia: one which is acute that comes and goes quickly and another one is chronic which develops over time.
Familial hypophosphatemia is very rare where the disease passes from one family member to the other leading to rickets which causes softening of the bones known as osteomalacia. Most of these familial diseases are related to the X-linked familial hypophosphatemia.
Another genetic disorder that is very rare is hereditary hypophosphatemic rickets along with hypercalciuria. The high levels of calcium indicate that they have low levels of phosphate in their blood. Only 2 to 3 percent of people suffer from this disease.
