Every individual has protein in the blood. This protein is called albumin and these proteins have a very important role in the body, such as building up the bones and muscles, preventing from infections and controlling the amount of fluid in the blood. Normally the healthy kidneys remove the extra fluid from the blood but let these proteins to pass through and return back to the blood. But when the kidneys do not work properly, they can let the protein to escape through filters into the urine. Then there is the presence of protein in the urine and this condition is called proteinuria (albuminuria). Having the traces of protein in the urine may be a sign of nephritic syndrome or it is called as the early sign of kidney disease. If a person has protein in their urine then there may be a risk of having kidney disease.

As Per Ayurveda Aspect

Prameha consists of two sub-words. i.e. ‘Pra’ and ‘Meha’ in which the word pra means passing of urine in excess by both terms: frequency and quantity and meh means to excrete. This disease is correlated to sandrameha (a subtype of prameha). There are 10 types of kaphaja prameha and are located in the fat, having similar properties and Kapha dosha is most predominant. In this condition, the urine becomes concentrated or dense and it precipitates when allowed to settle down when it is kept overnight. The main causes (nidan) related to it are hereditary factors (Sahaja nidana) and (apathyanimitaja)- intake of diet that increases Kapha dosha such as yavaka, hayanaka, ghrit, guda, and ikshu. Improper lifestyle includes sthula (obese), bahuasi (voracious eater), laziness, lack of exercise, sedentary lifestyle, excessive sleep during the day and excessive consumption of alcohol. Clinical features of premaha are prabhutmutrata (increase in the frequency and quantity of urine), avilmutrata (turbid urine).
